Strict Covid-19 health and safety measures, enacted across the Maldives' capital and in islands in order to curb transmission of the deadly virus, have been extended for 14 days.

In an announcement signed by the Director General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru, the Ministry of Health stated that the measures announced on 3 May 2021 across the country would be in effect for a further two weeks.

These measures include retracting eases in travel issued to those who have completed two doses of Covid-19 vaccines, and the closing down of parks, fields and other public spaces in the Greater Male' region. In addition to this, work permit holders entering the Maldives from India will be required to fulfill a 14-day quarantine, and will not be permitted to travel between residential and industrial islands. Those traveling from an island reserved for industrial use will be required to quarantine themselves for 10 days.

While some restrictions have been strengthened across the Maldives to battle a devastating wave of Covid-19 infections, public health authorities have yet to announce an extension to the 12-hour curfew effective in Male' City over the last week.
