President assures justice for Nasheed
Nasheed's attackers will be brought to justice: Pres. Solih

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has guaranteed that those responsible for the terrorist attack which targeted former president and Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed will be brought to face justice.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih made the assertion at the 173rd National Council Meeting of main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) on Sunday night. President Solih stated that he had spoken with former president Nasheed on Sunday afternoon, and that he had been assured of Speaker Nasheed's will and determination through their meeting.

President Solih revealed that foreign experts with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the United Kingdom were now assisting investigations in this case.

President Solih added that allied countries had immediately offered assistance in investigating the assassination attempt against Speaker Nasheed. He stated that work was ongoing to acquire evidence and record statements, and that the Police would be sharing information with the public as the investigation progresses.

President Solih went on to firmly assert that those that had targeted former president Mohamed Nasheed would be brought to face justice.

In addition to this, President Solih stated that the Prosecutor General's Office had been giving their full support for the investigation, and that a special team had been created to battle the case at court. President Solih confirmed that PG Hussain Shameem would be representing the state against Speaker Nasheed's attackers in court.

Further, President Solih declared that acts of terror were deliberately designed to disrupt the nation's peace, and stated that MDP and his government would stand firmly against any such malicious actors. He added that MDP had always sought justice, and that the party would work towards establishing peace across the country, while respecting the right to life of all people.
