Former Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali summoned to the Anti-Corruption Commission.

Dr. Aishath Ali, former Minister of Education under President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration, has been formally summoned by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for questioning in connection with a controversial compensation payout.

She appeared at the ACC on Wednesday morning at 09:30, following a summons issued two days earlier. The summons concerns her alleged involvement, as a member of the Alternate Dispute Resolution Committee in 2019, in approving a decision that awarded excessive compensation to Swift Engineering Private Limited. ACC suspects that she abused her official position to facilitate this decision, resulting in a financial loss to the state.

The anti-corruption watchdog maintains that the state was deprived of potential gains due to her actions, which are now under scrutiny for being against the interests of the government.

Aishath Ali is the latest in a growing list of high-ranking officials from the former administration to be implicated in the same case. Former Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer was summoned by ACC on Sunday, followed by former Economic Minister and current MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail on Monday.

Adding to the widening scope of the investigation, former Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath has also been instructed to appear before ACC. However, details regarding his summons, including the exact date and case specifics, remain undisclosed.

The unfolding investigation signals a deepening probe into potential misuse of public office by senior figures of the previous government, raising broader questions about transparency, accountability, and the handling of public funds during their tenure.
