Another local has succumbed to complications of Covid-19.
RaajjeMV understands that the deceased has been identified as an 85-year-old Maldivian woman, native to Kinbidhoo island of Thaa atoll. She succumbed to the virus while receiving treatment for complications at Dharumavantha Hospital.
This has been identified as the 72nd Covid-19 fatality.
Authorities reported another death on Wednesday morning, when a 32-year-old man, also a Kinbidhoo native. The man had Covid-19 symptoms, however, authorities are yet to confirm if this has been identified as a Covid-19 death.
This is the fifth death linked to Covid-19 reported in the Maldives this month.
The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 24 lives in the Maldives thus far this ongoing year.
With an alarming spike in case count over the past few days, with hospitalizations also increasing in comparison to the past month. Currently there are 119 Covid-19 patients hospitalized for treatment.
Maldives active Covid-19 tally is currently at 4,009 with 28,588 infections having been confirmed nationwide since the pandemic surfaced in the island nation during March 2020.
