Maldives Police Service (MPS) have arrested a 24-year-old local man for sexually assaulting a three-year0old child on Thursday night.

Earlier on Thursday, Police confirmed they had launched an investigation into the sexual assault of a toddler. However, they had not shared any further details, and went on to reveal that a 24-year-old local man had been arrested in the case.

MPS stated that they were handling the case as a serious one, and were in the process of gathering statements and evidence for the prosecution. Police assured that they would be taking all necessary steps in relation to the case.

Police earlier revealed they were currently working to compile reports based on the psychological assessment of the child and have affirmed that they are collaborating with the child protection department to ensure the safety of the three-year-old survivor.
