The Maldives Customs Service have revealed a 13 percent increase in the cost, insurance and freight value for the goods imported to the Maldives in March 2021, when compared to the same period in 2020.

The latest statistics by the Maldives Customs Service reveal that goods worth MVR 3.2 billion had been imported to the Maldives in March 2020. Customs statistics for the month of March 2021 show that MVR 3.6 billion worth of goods had been imported to the Maldives, which is a 13 percent increase when compared to March 2020.

While the state collected MVR 235 million in revenue in March 2020, the Maldivian government recorded MVR 266 million as revenue for March 2021.

Oman, India and Singapore were the top-contributors to goods imported to the Maldives in March 2021. Goods worth MVR 465 million were imported to Maldives from Oman over the past month, with MVR 439 million in goods imported from India and MVR 432 million in goods imported from Singapore to the Maldives in March 2021.

In March of last year, Maldives reported having processed 15,643 declarations, which increased to 19,138 declarations processed in March 2021. A total of 115 vessels received clearance and entered the Maldives in March 2020, January 2021 saw 133 vessels receive clearance and enter the Maldives. While 122 vessels departed from the Maldives in the same period last year, for the year 2021, a total of 154 vessels have departed from the island nation thus far.
