The People’s Majlis is to begin sittings at 10:30pm during the upcoming fasting month of Ramadan 1442.

Former President and Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed made the reveal during Wednesday’s parliament sitting, the last of which will be held before Ramadan 1442.

The Majlis guidelines indicate that sittings will be scheduled from 10:30am to 12pm during the fasting month. After a break of one hour, sittings will resume at 1pm and conclude at 2pm.

Although the time period for Majlis sittings during Ramadan has been shortened, Nasheed revealed that other operations will proceed without interruptions as before.

As such, committee work will be carried out as usual.

This year’s first session of the People’s Majlis will proceed until the end of April.

Ramadan 1442 is to begin on Tuesday, three days after the Local Council Elections, slated for upcoming Saturday.
