A foreigner has drowned off Hulhumalé, the capital Malé City’s suburban extension.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the 55-year-old woman drowned while diving in Hulhumalé.

The drowning incident was reported to authorities at around 11am on Friday.

Deceased was a woman native to Thailand.

Further investigations are underway, according to the police institution.

There have been cases of tourists drowning in the Maldives.

This will have an adverse impact on the island nation’s tourism industry, with authorities having advised visitors as well as relevant agencies and tour operators to take special care while arranging water sports and excursions for tourists.
