Filipino expats contribute significantly to Maldives’ development: FM Zameer

Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer has stated that expatriate workers from Philippines contribute significantly to the development of Maldives.

He said this in a message of felicitations, addressed to Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Philippines Enrique A. Manalo on the occasion of the 50th anniversary since diplomatic relations were established between Maldives and Philippines.

In a post on social media platform ‘X’ on Friday, the Maldivian foreign minister extended warm felicitations of the occasion to the Filipino Secretary for Foreign Affairs, the government and the friendly people of the country.

FM Zameer expressed confidence that the ties of friendship and cooperation between both countries will continue to strengthen in the future.

Further, the foreign minister added that expatriate workers from Philippines employed in the tourism industry as well as other service industries in the Maldives, have been making significant contributions to the development of the island nation.

Zameer noted that Maldives and the Philippines have enjoyed warm people-to-people ties based on mutual respect and trust, over the course of the past 50 years.

Reiterating the commitment of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration to continue working closely with the Filipino Secretary for Foreign Affairs and the government in efforts to enhance the ties of friendship, FM Zameer added that efforts will be boosted to strengthen ties and to deepen cooperation for the benefit of the people of the two countries.

FM Zameer offered assurances of his highest consideration before concluding the message.
