The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance of Saudi Arabia has donated an additional 10 tons of dates to the Maldives.
The ceremony to handover the generous donation was held at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs on Monday.
Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed received the dates on behalf of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs of Maldives.
Senior officials from the Saudi Arabian Embassy in the Maldives participated in Monday’s ceremony.
Minister Shaheem has expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance of Saudi Arabia for donating 10 tons of dates from the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance.
Every year, the Islamic Ministry distributes the dates given by Saudi Arabia coinciding with the fasting month of Ramadan.
As such, the Islamic Ministry distributes dates to the residents of Malé City, Villimalé and Hulhumalé. The distribution of dates across outlying islands is carried out by the respective island councils. One pack of dates is given to each household, after checking the Maldivian national identity card of the person receiving the dates.
For the past Ramadan, Saudi Arabia donated 55 tons of dates to the Maldives. This included 50 tons of dates donated by the Saudi government to the Maldivian government, and five tons of dates donated by the Saudi Islamic Ministry.
