Monitoring measures have been lifted from Lhohi island of Noonu atoll.

Lhohi was placed under monitoring on March 12 following the confirmation of Covid-19 cases from the island community and authorities confirmed that monitoring measures had been lifted from the island on March 25.

Although monitoring mechanisms have been dissolved, the island’s Emergency Operations Center has revealed that 24 patients are currently receiving treatment for Covid-19.

A total of 27 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in Lhohi. Since then, three patients have observed full recoveries from the virus.

318 out of 446 samples collected for Covid-19 testing in the island have returned negative for the infection and authorities are currently awaiting test results for the remaining 100 samples.

Further, the Emergency Operations Center on the island has banned anyone in quarantine from leaving their residences before their quarantine period is up.

Island residents have been urged to stay indoors unless for essential purposes, and to practice social distancing as well as strictly adhere to the face mask mandate at all times.

The first Covid-19 infection in Lhohi island was detected on March 11, after an individual in home quarantine tested positive.

Recently, there has been a spike in Covid-19 infections being reported across outlying atolls, as the country goes through an overwhelming third Covid-19 peak, which, to authorities’ best efforts, is yet to subdue. A number of measures are being implemented to help curb the spread of the virus including a nearly six-hour curfew in the epicenter Malé City.

A number of islands are being placed under monitoring due to the increase in coronavirus infections nationwide, and necessary measures are currently being implemented as contact tracing proceeds in all islands under monitoring.

On Friday, 11 coronavirus infections were confirmed from residential islands out of the 146 new cases reported in total between 6pm Thursday and 6pm Friday.
