Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has revealed that housing projects worth MVR 1.5 billion have been scheduled for the upcoming year of 2022.

Minister Aslam made the remarks in an appearance on the Noonu Atoll edition of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s Rahvehi Fathis campaign. He revealed that several housing projects had been planned, and further revealed that a number of loans geared towards helping citizens secure housing would be issued from the second quarter of this year.

In addition to this, Minister Aslam revealed that MVR 1.5 billion in housing projects were slated for the upcoming year of 2022, and said that he was now conducting discussions regarding them with the Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer.

Further, Minister Aslam assured that the government would be working to resolve the issue of beach erosion faced by the islands of Noonu Atoll, and also to provide them with water and sewage systems.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih also took part in the Rahvehi Fathis campaign event conducted with MDP candidates of Noonu Atoll, and reiterated Minister Aslam's assertion that a number of housing projects had now been scheduled for 2022. The President added that work on some of these projects would begin physically on islands by the middle of this year. He also affirmed his administrations commitment to provide housing to citizens, and acknowledged that it was one of the biggest obstacles faced by the citizens of Maldives.
