Charges have been raised against 10 persons over drug trafficking allegations.
The Prosecutor General's Office revealed that charges were being raised against 10 men accused of attempting to traffic 72kgs of illicit drugs in the Maldives after having brought the substances into the country on board the "Masjaree 2" vessel. The Prosecutor General's Office forwarded the charges against them to the criminal court on 14 February 2021.
The details of those being presented with charges of trafficking diamorphine are as follows;

3. Abdulla Visam, R. Inguraidhoo, Alex
4. Ahmed Naseer, Dh. Maaembudhoo, An'bugasdhoshuge
5. Mohamed Akram, K. Male', Garden Beauty
6. Mohamed Shareef, HDh. Nolhivaranfaru, Nooreeaage
7. Mohamed Furuqan, L. Gan-Thundi, Paris Holiday
8. Ahmed Shinan, R. Rasgetheemu, Feerozge
9. Mohamed Wajeeh, Th. Thimarafushi, Thandiraiymaage
10. Ali Ahmed, K. Male', MA. Kandooge
These 10 persons are being charged under Article 105 of the Narcotic Drugs Act (Law: 17/2011) for trafficking diamorphine.
In addition to this, Ahmed Naseer, Mohamed Akram and Mohamed Shareef are also being charged under Article 115 of the Narcotic Drugs Act for cannabis use.
