President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has declared that the government would be reviewing further complaints and issues presented to the permanent list of those receiving Hiyaa flats, in an effort to ensure that those most deserving are issued the housing units,
President Solih made the remarks while speaking at the 172nd convening of the National Council for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), held on Sunday night. The President went on to note that many issues had come to light from Male' City and in different atolls relating to the permanent list of those receiving Hiyaa flats. However, President Solih affirmed strongly that his administration would be reviewing inconsistencies in the permanent list of recipients of Hiyaa flats, if any, in order to issue flats to the most deserving citizens.
Further highlighting the topic, President Solih said that the biggest difficulty was that the previous administration had developed 7,000 housing units under the Hiyaa programme, which his administration had been tasked with completing and issuing them to the citizens. The President added that some 25,000 citizens had applied for the 7,000 housing units, and that it was unavoidable that many complaints and other obstacles would arise as a result.
President Solih went on to affirm the incumbent administrations commitment to provide social housing for the citizens of Male' currently in unlivable homes. He alluded to the projects currently underway to develop housing units in the Greater Male' Area, and assured that the right to housing for struggling citizens in Male' would be confirmed upon their conclusion.
In his Third Presidential Address earlier this month, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih confirmed that work on public housing projects that had been slowed down due to various reasons in recent months had now been resumed. President Solih expressed that by the end of this year, work to develop a further 5,000 social housing units in the Greater Male' Area would have commenced.
