Undersecretary of Communications at the President’s Office, Mohamed Mabrook Azeez has been promoted to the post of spokesperson.
Ibrahim Hood, Chief Communications Strategist who had been serving as the president's spokesperson, made the announcement via Twitter on Sunday.
The President's Office said that the post was created by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on January 1, and that Mabrook was appointed to the post at deputy minister level.
Hood has since relinquished the administration of the official spokesperson Twitter account, which has also been changed as per the new appointment. He said that his focus will be on the “overall communications effort” at the President’s Office from here on.
Hood, who held the post of undersecretary during former President Mohamed Nasheed's administration, was appointed the president's spokesperson in November 2018.
The new spokesperson became a household figure and a friend to the nation following the Covid-19 pandemic, having served as the spokesperson of the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) until July.
