Maldives Police Service (MPS) has rescued three crewmen onboard a boat that ran aground a patch of reef near Filaadhoo island in Raa atoll.

MPS revealed that the boat was en route to Meedhoo island in the same atoll with three individuals onboard when it ran aground a patch of reef and began sinking near Filaadhoo island.

Authorities received reports of the sinking vessel at around 1pm on Friday.

A large portion of the boat was already submerged into the water when authorities reached the vessel, and they were able to rescue the crewmen onboard.

All three are reportedly safe and unharmed from the incident.

The incident has been reported at a time the Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has been urging caution due to rough seas and stormy weather conditions.
