One of the individuals injured in the sea accident reported near Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi early Tuesday morning, is being treated in ICU.

The accident occurred on Monday night, when a sea ambulance travelling from Muli island in Meemu atoll to the capital city, collided into a speedboat, “Dream”, which takes trips between the capital and Feeali island in Faafu atoll.

The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) received a report of the accident at around 1am on Tuesday.

The sea ambulance was travelling with eight onboard, including a patient, who did not attain any injuries due to the accident.

However, two others onboard the sea ambulance were injured in the collision.

The captain of the other speedboat involved in the accident, also attained several injuries.

All three individuals are receiving treatment at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) currently, with a 43-year-old having been transferred to the ICU for serious injuries.

The other two are being treated at the emergency room.

MNDF Male' Area Coastguard Squadron Launch was dispatched to the scene after receiving the report and those injured were transferred to the capital city for treatment via another sea ambulance.
