Former Housing Minister, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu was admitted at hospital on Monday amid worsening health.
Spokesperson for Progressive Party of Maldives, Heenaa Waleedh confirmed that Muizzu had been admitted in hospital, but denied rumors that his condition was serious or that he had suffered a heart attack.
While the former housing minister was admitted at hospital, he was charged with perjury in July over alleged falsifying of statements in the state's case against Noomadi Resorts and Residences Maldives, at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, Netherland on 25 June 2019.
The Prosecutor General's (PG) Office detailed that Muizzu had lied about Noomadi having commenced work on-schedule regarding a social housing scheme, and that work had not progressed according to phase 1 (2011) and phase 2 (2013) of the agreements signed between Noomadi and the Maldivian government. The PG Office also maintains that he falsified a statement saying he had not participated in talks to reclaim the island of Lh. Dhiffushimaadhoo, which had been released to Noomadi to develop luxury villas, back to the state.
Muizzu was first questioned by the police regarding the Noomadi case on 22 February.
Police launched a criminal investigation into Muizzu's alleged perjury at the international arbitration court following a request of the Attorney General's Office.
The charges against the former minister have been forwarded to the Criminal Court.
