While the Health Protection Agency (HPA) recently permitted gatherings and ceremonies, 35 new Covid-19 infections have been confirmed, from a group of wedding reception attendants.
Authorities revealed that the new cases were confirmed after the patients attended a wedding at SHE Building on December 20 and stressed that high-risk patients were among the new infections.
About 120 individuals had attended the reception, said HPA.
HPA officials revealed that they are currently contacting individuals that attended the party as well as vendors, in order to quarantine them.
Work is also underway to conduct Covid-19 testing on all high-risk attendants.
All of the reception’s attendants who have not been reached out by HPA officials have been urged to contact 1676 to provide their information, they have also been urged to self-isolate.
At a time a cluster of Covid-19 cases have been confirmed following a mass gathering, authorities have stressed on the importance of adherence to Covid-19 safety guidelines and instructions in order to effectively curb the spread of the pandemic.
HPA pushed the public to host ceremonies and events in accordance with the safety guidelines, in this regard.
The over 30 infections come at a time Maldives has been observing a decline in coronavirus cases being reported daily, in the past few weeks.
