Resolving the various issues faced by the residents of capital Male’ City is a high priority for the government, says Vice President Faisal Naseem.

He said this at the inauguration ceremony of the new bus stop and park at west park area in the capital, developed under the State Trading Organization (STO)’s corporate social responsibility programme.

Speaking there, the vice president noted that this is “amongst numerous projects designed to mitigate the difficulties faced by commuters”.

He stressed that the government attaches high priority on resolving all issues faced by the residents of the Male’ in order to "cultivate a peaceful and comfortable city”.

Further noting that all drivers and pedestrians play a vital role in keeping the streets safe, Naseem urged the public to be “more attentive” while on the streets. He added that the high traffic in the city is inevitable due to its congestion.

The vice president also urged more people to use public transport.

Health Minister Ahmed Naseem, Malé City Mayor Shifa Mohamed, STO’s Managing Director Hussain Amru and other senior government officials attended the ceremony on Sunday night.

While statistics released by the National Bureau of Statistics back in October reveals that the Maldives' population has surpassed 550،00, with 40.8 percent living in the capital; a 5.8 square kilometre island.
