The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) had appointed chief judges to the High Court and Criminal Court.

Haathif Hilmy and Ahmed Shakeel were appointed as the chief judges of the high and criminal courts, respectively, on Thursday. They were presented with their letters of appointment by JSC President Hisaan Hussain at a ceremony at the JSC headquarters.

Hilmy holds a Bachelor of Law from Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom, and has 11 years of experience as a Civil Court judge, and 10 months of experience as a High Court judge.

Shakeel has a Bachelor of Sharia and Master of Sharia from Villa College, and has served at the Family Court, Juvenile Court, and Civil Court.

In addition, JSC appointed judges to Criminal and Juvenile Courts on Thursday, as well as magistrates to six outlying islands.

Maryam Thaaifa was appointed to the Juvenile Court while Saf’ath Habeeb was appointed to the Criminal Court.

Magistrates were appointed to HDh. Kulhudhuffushi, Sh. Funadhoo, N. Manadhoo, R. Maduvvari, GDh. Thinadhoo and S. Feydhoo magistrate courts.
