Bank of Maldives (BML) has funded the development of a library at the AA. Atoll Education Centre in Rasdhoo island, under its Aharenge Bank Community Fund.
The library development proposal submitted by Ismail Shimaau is among the five winning projects chosen from the proposals submitted during the first quarter of the year.
BML said that the library is now equipped with new book stands, furniture and a variety of new books, as well as an additional 1000 books; over 500 books from this collection is to have been provided as part of the Community Fund while the rest were received as gifts and donations.
Noting that there are 235 students studying at the AA. Atoll Education Centre, project winner Shimaau said that he submitted the proposal due to the books in the library being outdated. He added they just needed books and furniture as the area was spacious.
“I wanted to revamp the library and create an environment where children develop an interest to read. Hence, in addition to renewing the bookshelves, we procured new books and created an environment to relax and read. BML’s Public Relations Manager, Mohamed Saeed said the project was chosen “in the area of education” adding that they were able to “revamp the library and provide books for students studying in AA. Atoll Education Centre ranging from LKG to grade 10”.
He added that the bank hopes that the project will benefit the community.
The national bank has supported 10 such projects as part of the Aharenge Bank Community Fund this year, and 10 additional projects are to be announced in the fourth quarter.
Launched during February 2019, the “Aharenge Bank” Community Fund aims to empower individuals to contribute to their communities through sustainable projects and is a campaign to emphasize the bank’s commitment to bond with the people.
