Hoarafushi Airport inauguration has been postponed by a day.
While the airport inauguration ceremony was to take place on Tuesday morning, it has been postponed to Wednesday.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was to travel to the island for the ceremony, however, his trip had to be postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a yellow alert from Haa Alifu to Kaafu atoll until 2pm and a white alert for the rest of the country.
National airline, Maldivian’s test flight successfully landed on the runway of the newly developed airport in the reclaimed land in the island in Haa Alifu atoll, on Monday morning.
Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) was contracted the MVR 198 million project in March 2019. The development of the airport terminal and fire building were contracted this September, with MTCC saying that this adds an additional expense of MVR 13.8 million.
The project includes the construction of a runway measuring 1,200 meters, an apron and taxiway measuring 8,635 square meters, a parking area measuring 9,473 square meters as well as service roads in front of the terminal.
State utilities company, Fenaka completed the required electrical work by October 29.
