Maldives Police Service has launched investigations of physical abuse against a minor, in Thinadhoo island of Gaafu Dhaalu atoll.
Noting that the victim is 13 years of age, police said that they received the case on Sunday night.
Police further said that the victim’s safety “has been ensured” by the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services, adding that the case is under further investigation.
It added that “offences against children are treated as serious crimes and will be investigated with utmost diligence”.
