Discussions have been held regarding cooperation to upright the country’s economy after the Covid-19 pandemic passes.

The discussions were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday afternoon, where Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer, Ambassador of China to the Maldives Zhang Lizhong were in attendance along with other senior officials at the ministry and China embassy.

FM Shahid stated that the meeting saw productive discussions relating to exploration of economic cooperation in an environment after the ongoing coronavirus pandemic passes.

He noted with appreciation that China continues to extend strong support in the economic recovery process and other areas of mutual interest, at a time the pandemic has struck economies worldwide.

Following the meeting, which was focused on discussions revolving around post-pandemic cooperative economic recovery, Ambassador Lizhong stated that China is committed to more support and fruitful co-operation to benefit more people.

China has remained a generous contributor to the island nation’s response efforts since the coronavirus outbreak surfaced. As such, China has donated essential medical supplies and equipment and assisted in constructing accommodation blocks for foreigners residing in the Maldives as well as. This generous contribution mirrors the strengthened bilateral ties between both countries, the foreign minister earlier said.
