Maldives Covid-19 tally has risen to 10,656.

Nightly statistics publicized by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) reveals that 35 new cases of the infection were confirmed by 6pm, Wednesday.

32 out of the new cases were detected from the greater Malé region whereas three cases were discovered from residential islands.

Wednesday’s cases are out of the 1,123 samples collected within the past 24 hours.

30 Maldivians and five foreigners tested positive for the virus on Wednesday.

Further, HPA also reported 81 recoveries from the virus, pushing the total number of patients who have recovered from the virus to 9,547.

Out of the 1,068 active Covid-19 cases, 63 patients are currently hospitalized for treatment.

While there were 407 patients seeking treatment at isolation facilities nationwide on Tuesday, the number dropped to 387 by sundown on Wednesday.

With the authorization of travel to and from the epicenter of the virus, Malé City, the outbreak has spread across residential islands as well. As such there are active cases of the virus in 21 residential islands and 19 resorts, with the inclusion of 10 tourists and 15 resort workers. There are 125 active cases across islands in total, with 60 local cases and 65 foreigners.

Six Covid-19 patients are currently being treated at the Villingili Covid Facility.

34 patients have died from complications in the island nation, the last death was reported on September 21.
