Maldives Police Service (MPS) has launched investigations of sexual assault against a minor in capital Malé City’s suburban district Hulhumalé.

The police institute received reports of two individuals having forced sexual relations with a 15-year-old boy, at around 4pm on Sunday.

Police revealed that they took two individuals under their custody, after they requested for protection.

According to the police, they are yet to make any arrests in connection to the sexual assault of a minor.

However, police have assured that the required investigations into the case are underway by the Hulhumalé Police Station.

MPS has begun investigating a sexual assault case, at a time video clips of actor Mohamed Yunan and spouse Fathimath Rihula being driven away from their residence in Hulhumalé inside a police vehicle, have been circulating on social media.

Police have not disclosed further information regarding their arrest.

Sources report that an infuriated crowd that gathered outside their residence on Sunday evening had called for their arrest. This is believed to have been stirred by reports that the couple were the suspects in the sexual assault case.
