A man, found guilty of exposing himself to a minor, has been sentenced to three years in prison.

While the case against a Mohamed Ajnaz was submitted to the Addu City Magistrate Court in December 2016, it acquitted the suspect in April 2017.

The state appealed the lower court ruling at the High Court, shortly after.

The appellate court in its ruling noted that the suspect has a history of such offenses, adding that he requires “rehabilitation”.

Noting that the victim had detailed Ajnaz’s actions, the court said that there is no room to question the statement and that such claims against Ajnaz “are not new.”

The presiding bench unanimously found Ajnaz guilty, under the Special Provisions Act to Deal with Sexual Abuse Offenders of Children.
