A 30-year-old Covid-19 patient has been transferred to a treatment facility after condition deteriorated.

The man, who tested positive for the virus from Fares-Maathodaa island in Gaafu Dhaalu atoll on Tuesday night, was transferred to the Villingilli Covid-19 facility established in the atoll.

Manager at the GA. Atoll Hospital, Shareef Ahmed told RaajjeMV that the patient was moved to the facility as per the Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s instructions.

He is to have faced difficulties in breathing.

While two patients have been released from the Villingilli facility after treatment thus far, there are two additional patients admitted there currently; an elderly couple who was transferred there on September 8.

Shareef said that they are still under monitoring despite the required 14-day period having passed, as authorities made the decision to keep them there for 21 days due to their age.

While there was a small surge in Covid-19 cases detected from the Gaafu Dhaalu and Gaafu Alifu region recently, the situation is seen to be improving. Most of the cases being detected from outlying islands are individuals under home quarantine; a requirement after traveling from the capital, as part of the measures to curb community spread in outlying islands.
