Three expatriate workers in Gadhdhoo island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll have been isolated.

This was done following contact tracing after an expatriate in home quarantine tested positive to the global Covid-19 pandemic after completing the required 14-day quarantine period.

The island council’s president, Rayyan Jamaal told RaajjeMV that they have completed the contact tracing procedure and isolated were three expatriates who had not come in direct contact with the positive patient.

This is the first Covid-19 case to have been confirmed from the island and the island’s taskforce had immediately implemented the measures and guidelines under the instructions of the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

As such, the face mask mandate is being enforced as well as social distancing measures and limited social gatherings. More than three individuals are not allowed inside shops in the island either.

The council also revealed that these safety measures are also in place, in cafés and restaurants.

According to HPA’s latest statistics, there are active Covid-19 cases in 21 residential islands currently totaling 48 cases which include 34 locals and 14 expatriates.

Public health authorities continue to push island communities to strictly follow the face mask mandate, which is to be enforced in all islands where Covid-19 cases have been confirmed.
