Maldives reported 74 cases of the coronavirus infection on Tuesday, the lowest daily case count in days.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that out of the total, 63 were detected in the Greater Malé Region and 11 in residential islands.
The new cases include 59 Maldivians and 15 foreigners.
With this development, the country’s Covid-19 case count has risen to 8,741.
Further, HPA also reported 105 recoveries from the infection by 6pm Tuesday, bringing the total number of patients who fully recovered from the virus, to 6,157.
Out of the 2,549 active cases, 1,096 patients are seeking treatment at isolation facilities.
While the number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients was at 142 the previous day, the number dropped to 139 by Tuesday.
Authorities earlier placed monitoring measures in Madaveli island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll and Hoandedhdhoo island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll and there have been 33 confirmed cases from the latter after a local spread was confirmed.
Out of the 89 active positive cases from residential islands, there are active cases in 25 islands currently and 23 resorts, with the inclusion of 17 tourists and 48 resort workers.
According to health authorities, less than 100 cases were reported over the last three days, with 98 cases having been reported on Sunday. The lowest daily case count reported since September started, was on Friday, at 80 infections and Tuesday, at 74.
Health authorities have also predicted cases to drop significantly in the near future, to the end of the ongoing month.
