All 77 random samples taken from Thinadhoo island in Gaafu Dhaalu atoll, have come back negative for Covid-19.
Thinadhoo island council President, Ahmed Amjad confirmed this to RaajjeMV.
Noting that all random samples taken from the island had come back negative, he said that they were collected from areas where the public tend to gather on the island.
The random sampling was conducted two people from the island tested positive for the virus. One has since been transferred to the capital, while the other is quarantined on the island.
While a number of residents from other islands in the atoll travel to Thinadhoo on various purposes frequently, Amjad said that there are talks of conducting more random sampling on the island given that a number of Covid-19 cases have been detected in neighbouring Hoandedhdhoo.
A total of 25 people have tested positive for the virus from the island, including two unlinked cases. While 111 people have been identified as contacts, at least 60 have started exhibiting Covid-19 like symptoms.
