Maldives reports 80 Covid-19 cases, recoveries continue to rise

Maldives reported the lowest number of daily Covid-19 cases in days, on Friday.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that an additional 80 infections were confirmed by 6pm Friday out of which 77 were in the Greater Malé Region and three in residential islands.

The new cases include 60 Maldivians and 20 foreigners, revealed the authority.

This has pushed the country’s Covid-19 tally to 8,361.

Further, with an additional 159 recoveries reported on Friday, the number of recovered patients has risen to 5,642.

While the number of hospitalized patients was at 166 the previous day, the number dropped slightly to 162 on Friday, whereas 1,253 patients are seeking treatment from isolation facilities.

The coronavirus infection has taken 29 lives in the Maldives thus far, and the country currently has 2,684 actives of the virus.

There are active Covid-19 cases in 39 residential islands and 20 resorts including 17 tourists and 45 resort workers as well.

HPA revealed that 95 individuals in home isolation in residential islands have tested positive so far, out of which the most number of active cases, 10, is in Miladhoo island of Noonu atoll currently.
