The government has completed the football ground developed in Kendhikulhudhoo of Noonu atoll.
Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof made the announcement via Twitter early Friday morning.
The minister expressed gratitude to the youth and council of the island, as well as MP for the constituency Ahmed Easa for their continuous support.
The government hopes to complete the football ground in Alifushi island of Raa atoll within a week, added Mahloof, who added that work will then commence on the football grounds in Gan island of Laamu atoll and Fuvahmulah City.
The football ground project was carried out by a welfare company for the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), SIVEK with the joint efforts from AMIN Construction.
The ground leveling component of the project cost MVR two million, meanwhile, the turf planting component was valued at MVR 4.2 million, revealed the ministry.
Developing football grounds of high quality across 100 islands in the Maldives was an electoral pledge by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Earlier, the ministry completed football grounds in a number of islands including Thilafushi island in Thaa atoll, Nilandhoo island in Faafu atoll, Holhudhoo island in Noonu atoll whereas work is currently underway to develop football grounds in Guraidhoo island of Kaafu atoll, Addu City Hulhudhoo and Kudafari island in Noonu atoll as well as Alifushi.
At a time the government is observably doing well on its pledge to develop football pitches across the island nation, the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) is currentl preparing to host the Dhivehi Premiere League 2023-2024 as home and away matches.
The turf grounds being developed nation-wide will prove to be beneficial for the home and away games.
