The Bank of Maldives (BML) has sponsored the Maldivian national football team’s jersey.
BML’s CEO Andrew Healy had signed the jersey sponsorship with the Football Association of Maldives’ president Bassam Adeel Jaleel at an event held on Wednesday at the Champa Central Hotel, which was attended by Fisheries Minister Mohamed Shainee.
Healy said at the signing that BML has always supported the local football industry and are sincere fans of the national team. As such, several members of the bank's staff take time out to watch their matches at the BML office.
Wednesday’s agreement ensures that the bank would sponsor the team’s travel and training expenses and other services that players may require.
Healy further said that he hopes BML’s sponsorship will bolster the team’s performance and that he is honoured to overseen the bank’s relations with the football industry grow, especially given how its Maldives’ national sport.
Healy had also said that he eagerly awaits to see the Maldivian team win an international championship.
FAM’s president Bassam said that the association intends to conduct matches in six atolls every year. The venues of the matches will be decided by residents in the outer lying atolls.
