Parliament’s committee on public accounts is to question officials of three ministries as well as the Auditor General, regarding alleged corruption in Covid-19 related matters.
As such, the committee has decided to summon officials from the health, tourism and finance ministries as well as Auditor General Hassan Ziyath.
The decision was made at a committee meeting held on Monday, where members spoke extensively on the serious corruption allegations against health and tourism ministries, which was noted in reports compiled by the Auditor General’s Office regarding Covid-19 related expenditure.
All members present at the meeting voted in favour or questioning the auditor general, who has been summoned for Tuesday’s meeting. He is to questioned regarding the possible corruption involved in acquiring ventilators from a Dubai-based company.
The public accounts’ committee is to hold a separate meeting, over the corruption claims against the Ministry of Tourism.
