The government has facilitated the delivery of care packages to Maldivians stranded in Cuba amid the Covid-19 crisis.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that this is part of its work to provide essentials to Maldivians stranded abroad due to the pandemic.
It said that the delivery of the packages to the nine students in Cuba was facilitated through assistance from the Sri Lankan government.
Families of each student was allowed to send a package weighing 20 kilograms.
Noting that an agreement was reached for the delivery of care packages after numerous discussions with the Sri Lankan authorities, the foreign ministry said that the work to send the packages was conducted together with the Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Maldives Customs as well as the Aviation Security Command.
The work was monitored closely by Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid.
Similar arrangements have been made for Maldivians stranded or living in Sri Lanka, India, Thailand and Malaysia.
