Crew members onboard a sunken fishing boat have been rescued.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) revealed that the boat, “Kandu Roadhi – 01” was fishing 17 nautical miles off capital Malé City with nine crew members onboard, when choppy seas and adverse weather conditions caused it to sink.

As such, the crew members were adrift in the ocean when a boat passing by, spotted them and rescued them.

The incident was reported to the authority at around 6:33am on Saturday and no injuries were reported.

MNDF’s MA coastguard squadron was active in the region, in the morning.

This incident comes at a time several such incidents have been reported, with a missing persons report having been lodged with the MNDF as well. 27-year-old Ali Shah went missing after falling off a boat on his way to Mandhoo island to quarantine himself at home.

Following the alarming weather conditions nationwide, the Maldives Meteorological Service has also urged caution when travelling.
