The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has revealed that they have completed 59 percent of the road construction and development project in Fonadhoo island of Laamu atoll.
With 59 percent progression, the company is currently removing the existing road surfaces, with sub-grade work underway.
Further, MTCC revealed that road compaction and leveling is also well underway.
The project includes the installation of a stormwater management system in order to minimize the damage caused by flooding, said MTCC.
The company is also tasked with constructing speed breakers and road markings, under the scope of the project.
In addition, asphalt will be laid along 12 roads stretching up to 3.5 kilometers, in a 27,848 square-meter area.
The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted the project to MTCC which was mobilized on June 26, 2019.
The project is valued at MVR 25.5 million, revealed the contractor.
