The Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) has revealed that the resident of Nolhivaram island of Haa Dhaal atoll who tested positive for Covid-19, sought treatment at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The center’s spokesperson, Dr. Nazla Rafeeq revealed during Thursday night’s press briefing that the island resident underwent a surgery on June 23 and was discharged after treatment on June 26.

Highlighting that the individual travelled for treatment after receiving the required permit, Dr. Nazla revealed that the healthcare workers active on the streets of the capital region, took samples from the individual for random Covid-19 testing.

The individual’s test results came back positive, on Thursday.

Further, authorities have since quarantined five individuals identified as contacts of the case.

Reports of the Nolhivaram resident testing positive for the global pandemic surfaced on Thursday and the island council’s president, Ibrahim Rasheed revealed to RaajjeMV that the individual had arrived in the island on July 6.

He had remained in home-quarantine since arriving on the island, Rasheed confirmed.

Highlighting that there were three additional individuals quarantined in the same residence as the recent case, Rasheed noted that samples were collected from them on Thursday.
