Maldives Police Service (MPS) has made a number of arrests in connection to drug smuggling cases, across different atolls in the Maldives.

As such, officers arrested a 31-year-old man in possession of narcotics.

The arrest was made from Thimarafushi island in Thaa atoll, police revealed on Wednesday.

Similarly, a 28-year-old man was also arrested for being in possession of narcotics, from Dhidhdhoo island in Haa Alif atoll.

As part of the operations being conducted in the authority’s efforts to curb drug trafficking and smuggling cases in the island nation, officers also confiscated narcotics from a boat en route from capital city Malé to Raa atoll, on Wednesday.

Officers confiscated a package that was unloaded to Vaadhoo island of Raa atoll and left unattended to. Upon inspection after taking it into police custody, officers found two rubber packets stuffed with suspected narcotics.

No arrests have been made in connection to the case, however, police have confirmed that they were to be smuggled into Rasgetheem island of Raa atoll.

Further investigations have been launched into the case.
