The country’s national airline, Maldivian has brought 11 tonnes of essential supplies to the Maldives.

The airline’s freighter arrived at Velana International Airport with medicines and other consumables including fruits and vegetables, from Colombo, Sri Lanka on Sunday night.

The airline is currently scheduling cargo flights to five destinations; Colombo, Sri Lanka, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Bangkok, Thailand as well as Trivandrum and Chennai in India.

Maldivian began chartering flights to foreign countries on March 29, at a time the Covid-19 pandemic has been sweeping across the globe, provoking nations to close their borders and halt international travel.

Through these chartered flights, the airline has been bringing essential equipment as well as supplies to the island nation so as to ensure that citizens do not run out of essential goods.

The airline revealed that they might schedule flights to more destinations, in accordance with the demand for cargo flights.
