13 people have been quarantined in relation to the confirmed Covid-19 case from Maamendhoo island.
Three people have tested positive for Covid-19, on the island. While all three returned from the capital on June 13, they tested positive for the virus while under home quarantine.
While the Gaafu Alif atoll council confirmed to RaajjeMV that a 28-year-old man under home quarantine on the island had tested positive for Covid-19, the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) had previously shared details of the case.
As such, the man arrived in the capital from Maamendhoo on May 31, accompanying a person who required medical treatment.
He was tested for Covid-19 on June 6, and the results had come back negative.
While the man is to have stayed in a guesthouse in the capital with two family members, he is to have travelled back to Maamendhoo with the two. They are to have travelled via flight through Kooddoo, and the rest of the passengers on the flight had travelled to Gemanafushi island in the same atoll.
He is to have exhibited Covid-19 like symptoms and informed authorities on June 14, and his samples were taken the same day which arrived in the capital city on June 15; the test results came back positive on Thursday.
The two others that tested positive for Covid-19 from the island are his companions.
Contact tracing was carried out in both Maamendhoo and Gemanafushi islands.
Speaking at Saturday night’s Covid-19 press briefing, NEOC’s spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Aziz stated 13 people have been quarantined in relation to this including the two family members.
In addition, five people have been quarantined in both capital Malé and Gemanafushi.
Further, Mabrook said that authorities have yet to decide on placing Maamendhoo on monitoring as the first case has been identified as an “imported” case and there is no signs of a community transmission.
