The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) has revealed that a Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) personnel is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in quarantine at Filitheyo Island Resort in Faafu atoll.
This was revealed by the task force’s spokesperson, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz during Thursday night’s press briefing.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) began investigating a sexual assault case that surfaced from the quarantine facility, after the report was lodged on Thursday evening.
Mabrook revealed that accused of sexually assaulting the woman is the Manager of the facility, an officer of the MNDF.
As police investigations are ongoing, Mabrook revealed that both the MPS and MNDF are probing the sexual assault case. MNDF has since taken some measures.
Further, he added that the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services has contacted the victim’s family and provided assistance in the matter.
No arrests have been made in connection to the sexual assault case yet, as investigations proceed.
