The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is to probe disciplinary issues against Civil Court Senior Judge Abdulla Ali and three other magistrates.

In a statement on Wednesday, JSC revealed that they are probing a disciplinary issue where Judge Ali rejected a case without making the required summons. As such, the case was rejected in absence of the representative appointed for court summons, by the plaintiff. It previously stated that it was looking into two complaints regarding the judge.

The issues being investigated also include one regarding Chief Magistrate Mohamed Ibrahim from Kondey, Gaaf Alif atoll. Magistrate Ibrahim is being probed after claims of negligence in appointing a family member to the post of Administrative Officer at the court, against the employment guidelines.

Further, several allegations have been pinned on Magistrate Mul’ha Ali from Fuvahmulah City. The magistrate is being probed for “inappropriate” relations with individuals connected to cases at the court, overruling a detainment order of another magistrate regarding an individual in a sexual abuse case, being involved in “alleged” evidence tampering in an investigation related to businesses with family involvement.

JSC is also looking into cases involving Senior Magistrate of Hulhumalé court Siyaamaa Mohamed, regarding negligence.

The commission has formed investigative committees for the cases being probed, during their 42nd meeting.

The commission is investigating a number of judges regarding disciplinary issues, and it has thus far taken action on several justices.

One of the cases include former Supreme Court Justice Abdulla Didi who was removed from his post after being found guilty of accepting money from those involved in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) embezzlement scandal, using his position to gain undue influence, using his influence to secure a government job for his spouse, accepting bribes, violating judicial disciplinary regulation among many others.
