A volunteer of the Maldivian Red Crescent has tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19).

In an interview on RaajjeTV’s Covid-19 Coverage on Saturday, Maldivian Red Crescent’s Secretary General, Fathimath Himya revealed that a volunteer of the local humanitarian organization working in the forefront of their relief efforts, tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday.

The volunteer has since been taken to an isolation facility and about six other volunteers that were close contacts of the positive case, have been quarantined as well.

We were very lucky up until yesterday, no one tested positive before that. Some were quarantined after being exposed to the virus but didn’t test positive. But yesterday a volunteer tested positive and has been isolated, six others have been quarantined. What happened, happened yesterday”
Fathimath Himya, Secretary General, Maldivian Red Crescent

These volunteers spend a lot of time on the roads delivering food packs to migrant workers and other programmes and have been active for about two months now, said Himya.

At a time the Maldives has been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, Maldivian Red Crescent has played a praiseworthy role in the relief efforts, even having initiated a migrant relief fund to provide for the needy.
