Vice President Faisal Naseem has inspected the progress of the ongoing housing projects by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

VP Naseem was briefed on the developments of the projects by the members of HDC, who also provided a presentation to the vice president which highlights the envisioned result of the projects.

Under these projects, housing units are being built for shared accommodation, in order to ease the rent burden for tenants.

The corporation’s presentation focused on the concept of “co-living” and highlighted the financial benefits of allowing individuals who earn low or medium income, to share the same living space in order to reduce living costs.

This option is estimated to provide hundreds of people within the Greater Malé Region access to affordable living while also reducing their rent payments.

During the visit, VP Naseem highlighted that this option will benefit individuals particularly those with short to mid-term housing needs, like college and university students.

He further inquired on the latest updates of other projects of the HDC, in phases one and two of Hulhumalé.

The vice president went on to express gratitude towards the staff and senior members of HDC for their resilience towards easing the effects of the global Covid-19 pandemic.

HDC has revealed that further details will be disclosed with the public, with progress.
