Chief Inspector Izmia Zahir has been dismissed as police’s spokesperson.

Following her dismissal from the post, Chief Superintendent Yoonus Sobah has taken over the duties temporarily from June 1.

Izmia is the police’s first ever female spokesperson, she was appointed in December 2018.

In a tweet sent on Monday, Izmia thanked her team and colleagues for the “fantastic work” to overcome the various challenges faced.

Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed praised Izmia’s work as spokesperson, especially in closing “the gap between the public/media and the police institution”.

Hameed added that there were “unseen levels of engagement” during her tenure.

Chief Inspector Izmia is a graduate of Singapore National Police Academy and earned her Master’s in peace and conflict studies, in Australia. She is the daughter of former parliament Speaker Ahmed Zahir and sibling of Azmiralda; one of the first two women to be appointed as Supreme Court justices.
