Regional medical facilities
Civil work completed for regional medical facilities: Mabrook
Authorities hope to begin operations at these facilities on June 15.
Work is currently underway to transfer medical equipment

The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) has revealed that the civil work has been completed for the regional medical facilities being developed in outlying atolls in order to strengthen the Covid-19 treatment capacity of the country.

Speaking to press on Sunday night, the task force’s spokesperson, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz revealed that they are working to establish several facilities across outlying atolls in order to treat Covid-19 patients across the Maldives.

As such, the civil work for facilities in the following island and cities have been completed:

  1. Eydhafushi island in Baa atoll
  2. Funadhoo island in Shaviyani atoll,
  3. Ihavandhoo island in Haa Alif atoll,
  4. Villingili island in Gaaf Alif atoll,
  5. Gan island in Laamu atoll,
  6. Addu City
  7. Fuvahmulah City.
Work is currently underway to install backup generators in these facilities. Arrangements have also been made to transfer the required medical equipment and supplies for treatment, under two phases. Under the first phase, medical equipment will be sent such as CTG machines and ECG machines, as well as consumables, beds, oxygen cylinders, PPE and furniture. These equipment are being delivered via vessels used to make deliveries through STO”

Highlighting that work is currently underway to transfer medical equipment, Mabrook revealed that this has already been completed for atolls in the north such as Shaviyani, Baa and Haa Alif.

Further, supplies have been loaded to vessels which are soon to travel to the southern atolls such as Addu, Fuvahmulah, Villingili and Gan. These vessels are expected to dock in the respective islands within the next few days.

The regional medical facilities are expected to begin operations on June 15, said Mabrook.
