Maldives reports 101 Covid-19 cases, second highest single day tally

Maldives has announced its second highest number of Covid-19 cases in a single day, with 101 new cases confirmed in the last 24 hours.

The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) revealed this at Sunday night’s Covid-19 press briefing, where spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Aziz revealed changes to Covid-19 case announcements; new cases are to be announced once a day from now.

The new cases include 72 Bangladeshi nationals, 21 Indians and eight locals; 13 of the cases are from ‘containment’ sites while 79 foreigners and seven locals are linked to previously identified clusters. There are two independent cases; one foreigner and one local.

With the 101 additional cases, the country’s Covid-19 total case count has reached 1,773. Over 450 people have recovered, and there are currently 1,313 active cases in the Maldives.
